Sending and receiving feedback is one of the most important aspects of effective communication

In this video we introduce a framework called the 4 levels of communication, to help visualise the process of sending and receiving feedback, making sure your message has been received, creating shared information, and avoiding misunderstandings resulting from miscommunication.

4 Levels of Communication

Feedback is one of the most important aspects of effective communication.

For effective communication:

  1. I need to send the message (Level 1)
  2. The message must be received (Level 2)
  3. I need to know that my message has been received (Level 3). Understand and Interpret feedback.
  4. I need to communicate that I know my message has been received. (Level 4)

Closing the feedback loop creates shared information, which is essential for understanding – we both know that we both know.
