WHAT IS AutismWorks?
AutismWorks is a program that supports employers to build their organisation’s capability around autism in the workplace and to develop increased confidence to hire, support, and retain autistic employees.
Empower Autism strives to help organisations build diverse and inclusive workplaces in which autistic people can thrive.
WHAT THEY OFFER
Empower Autism provides organisations with training, support, and resources for both employers and autistic employees, as well as matching, placement, and ongoing employment support.
The aim of the program is to positively impact the employment rate of autistic people while increasing employer capability to retain employees through inclusive, accessible, and supportive workplaces.
This includes:
• Building organisational capability around autism in the workplace
• Developing increased confidence to hire, support, and retain autistic employees
• Support with recruitment pipelines, matching, and placement of new employees
• Support for employers and employees during the initial period of employment
• Access to resources for both employers and employees
WHY THE PROGRAM?
In Australia, autistic people remain vastly underrepresented across all industries and continue to face significant barriers to employment.
Some of these barriers include:
• Limited understanding of autism by employers, which can result in poor job retention
• Lack of understanding of recruitment barriers for autistic candidates
• Limited knowledge of how to support autistic employees in the workplace
By breaking down these barriers, employers can unlock the enormous benefits autistic employees bring to the workplace.
These benefits can include heightened ability to absorb and retain information, innovative thinking, and strong attention to detail—leading to increased efficiency, productivity, innovation, and profitability.
