Everything you need to know

Sailability WA members with the desire and potential to learn to sail are mentored in the stable two-person Hansa 303 dinghies, by an experienced skipper. A support person or family member is also encouraged to learn to sail in another dinghy, so they can eventually sail together as a team – known as a ‘double’.

Separate from the Sailability WA learn to sail program, members may elect to join a Royal Perth Yacht Club learn to sail course. These courses are run year-round and linked to the Australian Sailing framework of courses, providing nationally recognised qualifications in dinghies or keelboats. To learn more about the learn to sail programs by RPYC, please click here (adults) orhere for children.

An individual can acquire the skills to become a completely independent sailor and once competent, can compete in Club races in the Sailability WA Hansa 303 dinghies on Sunday afternooninclusive Club racing. They can further progress to purchase their own Hansa Liberty single handed dinghy and compete with the Club Liberty Fleet, or travel to State, National or International competitions.

The Sailability WA learn to sail program is held on Sunday mornings during the sailing season (October to April). Please arrive by 0930, to prepare and rig your boat. The session concludes for the day at 1130.

Participating in the learn to sail program also facilitates the opportunity to become part of the Para Squad, the next step in the pathway. Pleaseclick hereto read more on the Squad and how you can become involved.
